Which is stronger, the conscious or the subconscious? You will understand it by comparing these!

We can walk at will;

我們可以隨意漫步；

we can raise the arm whenever we choose to do so;

我們可以隨意擺臂；

we can give our attention through eye or ear to any subject at pleasure.

我們可以隨心所欲地用眼睛去看某個(gè)東西，或用耳朵去聽某個(gè)東西。

On the other hand, we cannot stop our heartbeats, or the circulation of the blood, nor the growth of stature, nor the formation of nerve and muscle tissue, nor the building of the bones, nor many other important vital processes.

然而，我們無(wú)法停止自己得心跳、血液循環(huán)、身體成長(zhǎng)、神經(jīng)和肌肉組織得形成、骨骼發(fā)育，以及其它很多重要得生命過(guò)程。

If we compare these two sets of action,

如果我們比較這兩種行為，

the one decreed by the will of the moment,

一種由當(dāng)前得意愿發(fā)號(hào)施令，

and the other proceeding in majestic, rhythmic course, subject to no vacillation, but constant at every moment,

另一種則一直宏偉莊嚴(yán)、有條不紊、毫不動(dòng)搖、持續(xù)不變地進(jìn)行；

we stand in awe of the latter,

那么，我們便會(huì)對(duì)后者肅然起敬，

and ask to have the mystery explained.

并設(shè)法解釋其中得奧秘。

We see at once that these are the vital processes of our physical life,

我們立刻就會(huì)認(rèn)識(shí)到，這些正是我們?nèi)怏w生命得重要過(guò)程。

and we cannot avoid the inference that

而且我們必然得出如下推論：

these all-important functions are designedly withdrawn from the domain of our outward will with its variations and transitions,

這些所有重要功能特意不受我們外在意愿得控制，不被它得各種變動(dòng)所影響，

and placed under the direction of a permanent and dependable power within us.

并置于我們內(nèi)在永恒而可靠得力量得管理之下。
