有些表達看似一樣但實際上風馬牛不相及

常常讓人鬧笑話

但也有一些表達異曲同工殊途同歸

意思一致的讓人不敢相信

比如今天要學(xué)的“old hand”

“old hand”是什么意思？

中文里我們常將有經(jīng)驗的人叫做“老手”

在英文中也有相似的表達：

old hand = 老手，富有經(jīng)驗的人

be an old hand at = 在 ... 方面富有經(jīng)驗

例：

We should trust Olivia to negotiate a good deal for us, she's an old hand at the game.

我們應(yīng)該相信Olivia會為我們談成一筆好生意，她是這方面的老手。

與之相對應(yīng)的是

green hand 新手，沒有經(jīng)驗的人

例：

Olivia is a green hand in teaching English.

在英語教學(xué)中，Olivia還是個新手。

“talk to the hand”是什么意思？

當你不想聽對方繼續(xù)說了

尤其是當對方講一些不好的話時

你就可以用talk to the hand

意思是“別和我說話；別說了；懶得理你”

例：

I'm sick of hearing your stories, talk to the hand.

你的故事我都聽煩了，別說了。

“hand-to-mouth”是什么意思？

hand-to-mouth = 僅夠糊口的，勉強度日的

經(jīng)濟類外刊中常用的一個表達

例：

Low wages mean a hand-to-mouth existence for many people.

低工資對很多人來說意味著勉強糊口的生活。

“have the upper hand”是什么意思？

the upper hand = 上風；有利位置

have the upper hand意思是：

占上風，處于有利位置

have也可以換成 gain 或 get

例：

After hours of fierce negotiations, Jack had the upper hand.

經(jīng)過幾個小時的激烈談判，Jack最終占了上風。
